Baa Bar (Deansgate Locks) Review:

Baa Bar is a Liverpool institution, started 9 years ago in the 'creative quarter' of the city, it offered Liverpudlians their first taste of European style bars, late licenses, and style and glamour normally reserved for London. With further expansion in the Merseyside city, the next obvious choice was to move elsewhere, and let other people have a bit of baa bar. And so with a relatively low key launch, Baa Bar sheepishly opened its doors a few months ago. Situated under a railway arch, and with a cool crisp decor, it manages to stand out from the crowd, which itself is a challenge considering you're side by side with three of the hottest bars in the city.

It doesn't come without it's bad points, however. Bar service is generally slow, as people clamour over each other on busy nights. Having said that though, the most important features (aside from le bar) are all there. The ceiling is strung with huge glitter balls, around 30 of them, which spin and refract like a drunken drag queen. Drinks prices are low, and they have a wide range of Shooters available.

The music style is generally close to mainstream, but seems to generally sit in the background rather than being loud. This will always be a debatable point, sometimes you want to talk, and others you want loud pumping tunes. But maybe they've got the right idea and gone for the middle ground. It has been known for the volume to be raised at weekends, and a recent re-furb has meant that there's space for you to dance.

The only other bad thing about Baa Bar, is that it has mirrors on both side walls. When entering, in your initial sober state, this poses no problem, but after a few "bevvies" you'll end up being completely confused and have no idea where the real world actually is. And you'll be constantly reminded of how wrecked you look.

An excellent night out, and with a second Manchester venue opening it should ease those huge queues.

me and my friends came to manchester for the weekend. we were very disappointed until we found BAA bar on the last night. this is a great little pub people actually spoke to us for the first time the whole weekend the bar staff were mad but HELLO the toilets thats disgusting. the music was good too by the way come to Ireland for a nite out then you,ll know wat ur missing. slan

We go here after we've been round our local town then head off to a club. The shots are sooo nice and the prices are cheap!!! which is great cos where we drink it isnt!!! TOILETS ARE DISGUSTING! there has to be a better way to overcome the lack of space than minging unisex toilets! Doormen seem nice enough and the staff are pretty efficient! usually full of students (not complaining tho!) xXx

I think this place is great. It seems to have got better over the past few months now that they've got better bouncers. The music seems a bit better too. the usual 'funky house' that the keeps every bar on the locks a bit the same is getting tierd on me. Lots of nice blokes to. Pitty that it is a killer to get served.

WA*K!...layout is f-ing poo...got a seat for me an my gf mates, an i kept knocking into this guy with this nasty spotty gal...he sez !are ut aking the piss m8 thats 3 f-ing times!, fu* like its my fault with hardly space to breathe...only gud thing bout it is drinks are cheap and the 1 occasion i went in, i took the fitest gurl i ever i got out on a date....but seriously, i even r8 scream bove this place....PEaCE!

alright as a start off to a night but too much DULL DULL formulaic boring antiseptic funky house from the Dj and what a CRAP layout...true it isnt a place youd sit down in....theres never a spare seat.

There are a few new faces in there, on the doors on the bar and behind the decks though it was better a year ago than it is today with the exception of sunday. When were these reviews written its mad! They do some mint pitchers now its well good. Just need more tables!

Great place to start the night when its a celebration night out! Never had any problems with the bouncers or staff but we normally go there between 8.00pm-10.00pm and get slaughtered on shooters before moving on.Does get really busy after 9.00pm which is annoying when your carrying a tray full of shooters!

Excellent night. First time in here (2/8/03) and what a place it is. This place was packed even on sunday. Great atmosphere, great drinks promotions (red square 1.50 a bottle, shots a quid etc) Great night with great people.

Bouncers every where are total a**holes but the beer is cheap, the smell in the mixed toilets however make it hard 4 the beer to stay down. How hard is it 2 p*ss in the big hole lads !!!!!

Those bouncers are only on the door because its the only job they can do...with those stinking attitudes there never gonna get a decent job. If they had a few manners (which are free! may i ad) then they would work in a 'normal' job, they wudnt need to stand on the door of a club being arrogant allnight and staring at peoples clothes...put it down to their dumbness and the fact they never listened at school.

I would have to disagree with people who say the bouncers were rude and nasty. they were very helpful when my friend lost her phone and extremely friendly. The downside of this place however is the toilets they are absolutely disgusting!!!!

the seemingly growing uneasiness of the door staff is probably directly related the irresponsible pricing policy. get p*ssed quick syndrome. on edge all night with the police parked outside...waiting for trouble perhaps????

I have to agree with some of the above - the bouncers are pretty horrific, and it used to be a fave of ours. I wonder if they alcopop tax wil affect the drinks prices? Lose the bouncers, keep the prices low and we'll come back!

I used to really admire this place, and its still a nice bar inside but we witnessed a pretty horrific incident. The tall Asian bouncer flipped out at two girls (both quite smartly dressed) and swung a punch a man who tried to intervene. It ended up with the bouncer calling one girl a 'fat b*tch', and slapping the hands of the second girl. I've seen a few problems with these bouncers, and our visits are becoming rarer.

The bar is fantastic the shooters great fun, the disco balls and comfy sassy black sofas- but what the hell are the nasty blokes doing they decided to put on the door! pushing girls about and picking fights is usualy the behaviour door staff are meant to control not start, bit of a shame really.
