Big Hands

Our Big Hands Review

One of the more interesting Manchester bars, with a tiny frontage that is almost overlooked. Despite the expectancy of it being tiny, once inside you'll realise that it goes back for miles and miles, and every inch of the place has a fantastic kitsch atmosphere

With the music most nights being eclectic tunes with a few odd popular ones thrown in, the crowd is a mix of students and lay-abouts, the bar staff are friendly and the d?cor means that in-between conversations you can read the posters and band flyers fixed to the walls.

Situated next to Manchester Academy, it's a common place to hang out before or after a gig, but with a 2am license you can end up there most nights. Definitely not one to dress up for, as the crowd that takes advantage of the cheap drinks is definitely on the far side of 'relaxed casual'.

If you're meeting someone and you're not interely sure what they're like, meet them at big hands. Cuts off a lot of bull sh*t.

The kind of place arts students probably hang out. Cheap foriegn lagers, one or two flamboyant types. I didn't find it comfortable

despite a slightly seedy and all but invisible frontage, this bar is actually pretty good. this is the venue for most after show partys for bands playing at the academy and students union, and gets very very full on such occasions. the rest of the time it is fairly quiet, and not too loud. Drinks are overpriced but there is a large selection of random bottled beers. dress code is non existant.

I miss Big Hands. I miss Violent Femmes references. It used to have the hottest bar staff in the world until that lovely Mr Adams left. Never been the same since.
