Chicago Rock Cafe

Chicago Rock Cafe

Our Chicago Rock Cafe Review

Boddingtons clearly hit the right note in Liverpool when they opened their first Life Cafe there. Hoping to make a similar impact on the Manchester scene, they duly launched their second baby in August 2000 with much fanfare and publicity.

It's a typical 'trendy' style bar, with an upstairs eating/balcony area, downstairs dance floor, and a further trip below will take you to the 'Late Room' a venue for Live Music and Comedy. Like all bars formed out of the 'Trendy Bar' mould, drinks prices are high, but Life Cafe does succeed in several areas. Firstly the crowd is all over 25 - they've quite clearly aimed Life Cafe at the Middle Income No Ties segment of society - secondly there seems to be more women than men, and finally they have live bands and groups playing popular music. Despite the fact that we hadn't heard of many of these musicians, they were good, and generated just the right atmosphere whilst everything still remained classy.

The dėcor is quite fresh, nowhere near unique, but certainly steering well clear of being tacky, and the layout is well thought out even if the dance floor is a tiny bit too small and can get a little overcrowded.

Conclusion: If you're over 25, and have a bit of money to throw around, go here. It does usually end up being a great night out, and there's plenty of bars nearby should you decide that you want to tone the evening down a little.

Life is a great Cafe. The people that go in there are extremely friendly and love to dance. Not a place for idiots or stuck up people. The door men are cool too especially the head doorman, you know who you are. Aye! Az

Had a few really enjoyable nights in here, more recently have found a number of student types in but still an older crowd. Music is fab and fun and the drinks I found were average priced. Should allow more men in though!

Night spolied by mindless Life Cafe bouncer kicking the living daylights out of a person who had been ejected from Brannigans infront of a queue of people going in to Life. Absolute madness and he wasnt even involved. I won't visit there ever again and perhaps they should review who they employ!!! Police were informedand I hope the girls in the queue who were crying at the sight are now feeling better.
