Taking its name from everyone's favourite fabric, Cord certainly takes it's theme to heart, with an interior exclusively, you've guessed it - brown cord. Although the actual place is quite small the seating is divided up into booth's that allow a space for conversation and relaxation, with a small selection of snacks available too. Stylishly understated, The Cord Bar is a nice little place and it'll be intersting to see if they can draw any crowds from their neighbours, and rivals, Centro. This rivalry got under way with an electrician, who was working in Cord, accidently reversing his van through the front of Centro. First blood - Cord, but they've picked some very strong opposition..

Why do people call this place pretentious? Get on with your evening people. Everyone seems either friendly or unfriendly. No pretence there. Me? I love it. COuld do with cleaning and clearing the tables once in a while though. Good black beer. Nice staff. Good times. Not as good as Centro though.

Mixed one really, I heard alot of good things about Cord, some of it was justified, it is a very groovy place and does symbolise what the Northern Quarter is all about. But its so tiny, definately a place if your arty though, if you are a poppy type person who buys their clothes from USC, dont bother.

Great location, great beers available and great decor. Shame about the pretentious clientele. If people in this place could get over the fact they're not famous and not in London, it would be far better.

The kind of gaff in which punters can feel free to shake their Hoxton mullets. In a city packed with bars policed by neanderthals, and frequented by the clueless, Cord is a most welcome breath of fresh air. Manc's closest equivalent to The Bricklayer's Arms. The soundtrack provided by Andy Votel and his Twisted Nerve posse in the abattoir on a Friday evening is second to none. Thank God for Cord, miles smoother than any other fooker in this once great town of ours.

a good bar that suffers from pretentious muso tw**s who think they're something. I love the cord though and they sell liefmans (try it)

nicely tucked away but agree with other reviewers... a tad pretentious but not a bad place early on in the evening... post shopping, pre going out...

it's a great little bar to start a night out in the the northern quater. Get there early and leave early if your planning to go elsewhere otherwise you'll end up sharing a booth, making new friends and youll never want to leave.

It's an ok place. A bit small though which is a bit crap if it's busy and you cant sit down with your friends.

I go in most weekends and think its great! Its so different from the tripe around Deansgate etc. There aren't any kn*b heads and its nice to just go for a drink and chill! My favorite place in town along with Centro!

Nasty people with attitude. Felt like I was walking into a pretentious 6th form common room. Oh and the toilets were a real mess. What white powder?

Hoped that it would have the same atmosphere as Centro across the road - but seemed cliques abounded and I was looked at like I didn't fit in. Bar staff nice ( friendly girl with black hair and bright red lipstick)food lvery limited ( hardly a cafe bar) and it looked unfinished. Fair addition to N/4 if a bit pretentious for my tastes.
