The Metropolitan
Our The Metropolitan Review
In competition with the Woodstock as the location of choice for Didsbury's post graduate community, The Metropolitan is set in a converted town house and has the look and d?cor to show it, the menu is as you'd expect and the drinks the same. The Woodstock is maybe the better choice but if there's a group of you and you can grab a table it's a good enough place to while away the evening.

If I could say at least once, that I had a really nice pint in this place, then things would be a bit different. However, I haven't, it's always mediocre - served in wrong glasses by transient, vacant staff. If there are four of you you don't get much change out of a twenty pound note on returning from the bar either - and for that price, you want the beer to be exceptional. Buy a round in the Met and then try out the Railway across the road. The savings you will make will amaze you! If you are a Marlboro light smoking post grad and order drinks from the bar by saying ; "Er yeah can I get, ("GET?" It's "HAVE"...) like, two pints of Staropramen?" and proceed to pay using your card (don't worry it'll be WELL more than a fiver) then this place is for you.

Seriously below par ale nearly £4 a pint? No thanks! Ever changing head chefs means no food standards consistency. 5 barstaff at bar and nobody serving? Ha! Full of southern ex-student types and dolled up shagbags. Just made the restaurant bigger to make even more money. Stay away at night - gets rammed, and full of dicks.

My work colleague and I come to the Metropol rarely but as a treat as the service and meals are of excellent standard and we always come away pleased.

Relaxed ambience, quality furnishings in a busy crowded atmosphere complimented by difficult to beat quality pub grub and wide choice of wines and beers. Higher than usual prices are worth the higher quality of establishment.

Beer too pricy, crowd too prissy! No music and dazzling bright lights will guarentee an irritable night out.
Pretentions of being a classy French bistro, bar name is spelled 'Metropolitain' on the sign outside and 'Metropolitan' on the sign within - this is just damned inconsistant.
Badly needed is a dimmer switch, a jukebox, a pool table and a peanut machine and I will be smiling. Also, clear out the handbag brigade. Poseurs!

The other day I went to this pub with a friend. I drank five pints of Stella. It cost me fourteen pounds and fifty pence. I'm not sure but I think it was one pound fifty for two bags of crisps!

I was a research student in 1971 when I lived off Burton Road and the Midland , as it then was , was my local. It offered Whitbread Trophy, regular fights and drugs.
By contrast the Met is bouncer-free, civilised, serves a nice pint of Timothy Taylor's and frequented by an affable cross-section of the local community. It also has a very reasonable restaurant in terms of menu choice and price. We could do with a few more like it!

A very large pub with several rooms that was noisy, hot and smokey when we visited. A nice selection of draft beers although the majority of guys drinking lager perhaps indicating the clientel. We were stood by the bar are the number of people paying by credit/debit card also gives some indication of the prices. Don't eat there though - the food was pricey and mediocre; the service unsmiling and unattentive

For some reason this pub has always come highly recomended, so last week a friend and I tried it.
Service was extremely poor ( 4 staff nobody else at the bar - 10 minutes to get a pint of lager and a pint of bitter ), beer was ok - but expensive, atmosphere was
ok. All in all I cannot see why this pub would be so highly thought of. Definitely a case of the emperors new clothes.
