Our Bugged Out Review
Since BuggedOut! first arrived on the clubbing scene, there have been some crazy nights. Imagine seeing, for example:
- The Chemical Brothers and Daft Punk before they blew up.
- Laurent Garnier playing a set accompanied by two blokes with models of the Eiffel Tower on their heads.
- Squarepusher swigging from a bottle of tequila as he coined his legendary slogan 'C'Mon You C***s Lets Rave'.
- Badly Drawn Boy playing an acoustic set over the sound of DJ Sneak in the next room.
- People being moved to tears as Jon Carter ended the night with 'My Sweet Lord' on the day George Harrison died.
- Dexter Fabay and Robbie Chaser having to DJ on top of crates of Red Bull because they were too short to reach the decks.
- Erol Alkan being serenaded by a crowd singing the Batman theme tune.
- Gonzales playing 'Auld Lang Syne' on a white grand piano, dressed in a smoking jacket and smoking a cigar.
- The Scissor Sisters playing in front of fifty people before anyone knew who they were.
- Mu finally pulling off a handstand to a cheering crowd after falling over several times.
Even though their occasional parties around the world and their other residencies at The Loft in Barcelona and The End in London keep their profile high, BuggedOut! has a very special place in the heart of Mancunian clubbers. The night took its first steps at Sankeys Soap after the founders of Jockey Slut magazine hooked up with Sankeys Soap owner Andrew Spino. They moved on from Manchester after Sankeys Soap first closed down in 1998, taking in everywhere from Cream in Liverpool to Amnesia in Ibiza and picking up two Muzik awards, The Face's Best UK Club and Dancestar's Best International Club awards along the way.
BuggedOut! came home to the revamped Sankeys in 2006 and Mancunian clubbers welcomed them with open arms. And well they might. When it comes to electro / techno parties, BuggedOut! is about as good as it gets.
