Our Carnival Divine Review:

One minute you're dancing to the latest hit from The Gossip. The next thing you know, you're dancing to some 1940's swing in front of a stage where a very pretty lady dressed in pants and pasties dances coyly with a pair of ostrich-feather fans. You can only be in one club - Carnival Divine. Since Carnival Divine started running a while back, it has become a very popular party on the alternative scene. Its mix of rock, electro, dreadlocks and tattoos with big band, swing, 1920's jazz, stockings, corsets and pinstripes make it stand out a mile. And once you're there, the burlesque performers, magicians, jugglers, fire-eaters and stand-up comics keep you entertained throughout the night. Think of it like cabaret, 21st century style.

I've been going to Carnival pretty much since it opened and it's one of my favourite nights out. The atmosphere is so friendly and everyone makes a real effort. It's so different to many other burlesque nights I've been to and I love this. Its great to have the variety of classic acts mixed in with neo-burlesque. I would recommend this night to anyone!

I have been to Carnival Divine a couple of times now. It seems to be getting better, but still seems very amateur compared to many burlesque shows I have seen. I find that some of the performers are a bit forced, and verge on tacky, rather that classy, seductive, tongue and cheek. Burlesque has got boring very quicky since it became extremely popular over recent years. It seems that everyone is taking on the vintage thing and every girl looks the same....I don't feel that modern burlesque gives any justice to original ladies, when nipples tassels were new and not being sold out on every shop highstreet lingerie shop....I feel some different is needed, some with real soul, not just replicating times gone by!
