Our Tribal Sessions Review

Way back in the heady days of the nineties rave scene, the merest mention of Tribal Gathering would have clubbers across the country sitting up and taking notice. The legendary open-air parties and festivals represented everything anti-corporate, urgent and immediate about the dance scene. Of course, the police weren't such big fans and Tribal Gathering had a bit of a rough ride. That's where Sankeys comes in.

Tribal Sessions set up home there in 2000. Despite a hiatus when Sankeys Soap closed in 2006, the night continues to be one of the best clubs in Manchester. The legendary Phason sound system and strong team of resident DJ's provide an unbeatable basis for the night while visiting DJ's like Carl Craig and Bushwaka draw huge crowds.

The music covers deep house, cutting edge techno and tribal house, with occasional nights hosted by Naíve Melody for good measure. Think a dark, sweaty basement, hard beats and a crowd that won't quit - you've not really done clubbing in Manchester until you've done Tribal Sessions.

When your on the pole absolutely wired, with girls either side of you, the Funktion 1 system roaring behind you and the striplights changing colours in that sinister way, you know there is nowhere better on earth. I try and get there every Friday and Saturday, it never tires.

I've been twice now and been completely blown away on both occasions. The atmosphere downstairs keeps you pinned to the wall and what really struck me is how friendly everybody is. Go.and.be.happy.with.life.

With it being the starting place for the legendary underground night Bugged Out! it hard to find any bad points about this deep, and dirty underground paradise. The sheer set up of the venue is intimidating to say the least with having to travel through the dirty run down mills of the industrial side of manchester. This is for loyal clubbers and thats what it attracts!!

Sankeys is the best club on the planet. I love going to Tribal on a friday night and just havent been able to find anywhere else that compares. I also went to see Erick Marillo a couple of weeks back and it was one of the best nights of my life.

Went a couple of times to bugged out before it closed and that was amazing....now its just generally better. All you buggers whining about the heat! just go and stand next to that fan..heaven. Not heard a boring set from anyone yet, long may it continue!

Sankeys is in a league of its own, at least in Manchester. The sound is awesome. However,it can get very hot, even if you`re standing under the fan. The funniest thing recently was dancing to Kenny Dope Gonzalez of Masters At Work at 5:30am when virtually everyone else had left. What was going on? Full club at 2am, yet only 150 people remained by 5am?

Tribal is wicked! its by far the best night in manchester and coming close elsewhere!the atmosphere is amazin as well as its the same people every week! you go once and then you go every week as i have been doing for the past year!c'mon carl cox next friday!!! :)

Anyone who hasn't visited sankeys yet wants to get down there, its a guaranteed top night out. Resident greg Vickers is a fantastic dj and knows just how to work the crowd, and when carl cox did a set a couple of weeks age the crowd went off their heads. Its wkd!

iv been to tribal sessions once it was to see sander and i was blown away the soundsystem was awsome the crowd just as good. tha only letdown was there was a group of weapons (stuck up people) but you carnt blame tribal sessions for a couple people who were mistakes as babys. keep it up who is to those people who are involved in briging the djs back HOME.

Last year i visited the Tribal session for the first time. Now it's one of the reasons for coming back to Manchester (coming from Amsterdam) Tribal vibes, good sound system, and mix from all kinds of greedy friendly dance lovers! Great!!

We like getting f*cked and its part of a great night out at this place. Avalaches, Jon Carter, xpress 2, Funk d Void and Jeff Mills again this weekend. We've had a laugh, danced to some great sets and the people around us at 3 in the mornin' are up for it!! Bring on the king of detroit this friday. Love & peace...

Sankeys is THE best night out in manchester and probably one of the best nights out in the uk. I've been to Fabric a few times which I know is said to be the best but I think, atmosphere wise, music wise, and every other wise, it is untouchable. John Digweed a few months ago was one of the best nights I've ever had. Love it. Keeps it up guys

sankys is the only place that does it 4 me in manchester and in my eyes is one ov the best clubs in the country. it takes the p*ss out ov all the other plastic club nights around with its underground vibe,its how clubbin should be! the line ups are class, these people really know about music, love it!!

how can woodster call the crowd at sankeys?? it has got to be 1 of the best crowds in the country. its location means only people who make the effort find it & how friendly is every 1? & wots that 'sometimes when theres a good dj' comment about?? there are good djs on every week!! finally about the best club in the world bit. u just have to ask the djs who have played there alot of them rate it as one of the best along side pacha. sankeys 4eva!!!

We saw sasha on good friday along with the residents and he mixed up a storm. The atmosphere is second to none, the tunes are utterly filthy and they sell chewits at the water bar. Mucking top!

hey rob, how does it work at sankeys? do they employ their own doorstaff or do they use an agency?? just wondering as they have to be some of the best i have ever come across. really friendly no attitude problems and prepared to have a joke with punters. this makes an extremely welcome change to the usual up their own backsides doorstaff you get all to often now!!

Been once before to Sankeys and was impressed with the dirtyness of it. However, doesnt match up venue wise to the Arches in Glasgow. I head to Pressure alot and have to say thats probably the best club night, along side Fabric in the UK. Tonight is Jeff Mills and if he is as any good as he was at Pressure at the end of February 2004 then we are in for a treat. Lets Tango!

Went 4 first time n even tho wasnt packed fort it woz absolutely kwality. Came out feelin dark, sweaty n groggy but completely liberated. Dom Capello woz mint, made me realise the extent 2 which macclesfields nite life is a total joke. a great club but 100% overrated too many first time clubbers that think its cool to dance like a penguin! women were very poor, i was so excited to go when i arrived i found it to be very ordinary, i will be going again to give it a go, the only thing it has going for it is that its open till 6am

have been goin sankys now for nearly a year.hav tried other places. but no others came any close to this heaven on earth. sankys is the no1 place to be on a friday. bein a tribal follower. i rave bout sankys to who ever i meet.it is the no 1 club of all time and i still will be rockin there when im old and grey sankys rocks yea baby.

line ups are still ace. the interior of the club is now (after 6 years and no refurbs) just like any other crummy dive though, only triple the price. top marks for getting the best DJs on, revised down to 3/5 for the puddles of piss in the bogs, the rips in the seats, the outdoor cloakroom queue and the booze prices

I first went to sankeys about 3 weeks ago for the tribbal alnighter and saw layo & Bushwacka there. It was the best night i have ever been to,the tunes, the atmosphere the people and the old warehouse feel was class. I spent all summer in ibiza but no night there was as good not even space. i think the other Lee must of got lost and thought he was a sankeys.

Andrew wetherall was awsome! I used to go to sankeys every week in the mid 90's and it' great to see that not a lot has changed. If u r a serious electronic music lover this is the only place to be on a friday night in manchester. The atmosphere was friendly with no trouble what so ever. If I ever get married i'd like the ceromony to be in this fantasticly underrated twisted disco.

haven't been for years, moved away and god, do I miss it!! Bugged out was sooooo good and tribal sessions completely rocks. every time i've been has been legendery. Richie Hawtin, Daft Punk, Jeff Mills to name but a few quality evenings. I really need to move back, but it's too sunny down here!!
