Manchester promoter hits the big time

A local DJ and promoter has been making waves across the dance music scene. Kryder (still as mysterious as they are anonymous but the main man's identity is in the name of the act) are the producers to check out as summer arrives. Subject of a full-page feature in Mixmag, all we can be sure of is that the outfit consists of Kryder himself, his dwarf sidekick - the classically-trained Dokta Kaotika - and a circus freakshow entourage. Errrr, oh-kaaaaayyy. Wacky, crazy image aside (see pics for what we mean), what impact has Kryder had on the clubscene?

Kryder himself says “we’re producing music that stands up in any club,” something that is backed up across the industry: the track K2 recently missed out to Calvin Harris for Essential New Tune but Calvin paid that one back by including the track in his own Essential Mix. Pete Tong played K2 on his Miami Radio 1 show and it’s also been made Tried and Tested by Judge Jules. Elsewhere, Kryder featured as a Weekend Player on Capital FM and support has come from Kiss Radio, Juice FM, Radio City and across various European and American stations. In terms of DJs, Kissy Sellout has been playing Kryder's music both on air and to dancefloors, plus further support has come as far and wide as Chuckie, Calvin Harris, Funkagenda, Mark Knight, Erick Morillo and Groove Armada.

It's quite an enviable pedigree already for a new artist. So where does such a producer debut as a live act? How about Ibiza? Kryder accepted an invitation from Tiesto to play at his Ibiza party Privilege on August 15th. This means, in the exaggerated style that comes with the image, he has announced himself as a live act with the possibly the world’s biggest DJ, at the possibly the world’s biggest club.

K2 is out in June on Tiesto’s Musical Freedom label with Mixmag already giving this “epic Miami monster anthem” 5/5, adding that they “expect it to stick around throughout the Ibiza season”. The Kryder release schedule doesn't stop there. Other tracks have been released across the planet including a more tribal, percussive sound that has been served by Brazil’s Maquina Records, with tracks such as Me and Vudu; the harder more hypnotic, electronic sound is demonstrated by track Repeat, out on the Heavy Artillery label in LA; other Kryder cuts including No Me Gusta are currently devastating dancefloors across the globe with Ricochet and Avalanche lined up for release on London’s House Trained records in the near future. All that’s besides massive remixes for major labels breaking into the top of Music Week’s Upfront chart.
