Housed in what was formerly known as Lloyd's Bar this venue has got plenty of history but it's the latest incarnation Mojo that has captured our imagination. Read on for the full review.
If you haven't heard about this bar yet, where have you been hiding?
A relative newcomer to Manchester Mojo has been making a lot of noise on the bar scene and a few weeks ago we gave it a quick review and put it in our top 5 bars.
Now we've decided its about time to show you some lovely photos of the place and go into more detail so you can see what all the fuss is about.
Situated just off Deansgate, its discreet location manages to keep the idiots out, and once inside it comes to life in extraordinary fashion. Based around a concept exported from Barbados to Leeds and now Manchester, it's very rock and roll and plays the sort of tunes you wouldn't normally find around this part of town. Mojo with its mantra "music for the people" does away with DJs, instead the staff select random music through the MP3 player behind the bar and if it turns out to be something you've always wanted to know the name of, you can name that tune by checking the bars TV screens.
Last time we were in we heard everything from Jimi Hendrix and The Rolling Stones, to Oasis, Franz Ferdinand and Artic Monkey's. With indie bands currently dominating the charts there's plenty of the latest hits aired along with the classic anthems.
The bar itself is a sleek slimline affair stretching the length of the venue, the staff are great and make some seriously potent cocktails. Seated area is very limited but if you like to lean on the bar and work your way through the extensive drinks menu then this will be right down your street. Food is taken care of by one of the friendliest guys around Marcus, who serves up the scran - sandwiches, burgers and the usual bar snacks - Tuesday's through to Saturday's from 4pm until 10pm.
Mojo seems to attract a more grown up audience but don't let that mislead you into thinking the party doesn't get lively as by the end of the night everyone unleashes the rockstar in them at this riotous venue.
