As The Warehouse Project gets a stay of execution at Store Street, we wonder how else the credit crunch is affecting clubbers.
Here at Manchester AfterDark, we like to think we live in a nice little bubble full of great parties, cracking tunes and sexy clubbers. But the other day we turned on the telly to hear some finance guy on the BBC telling us that the bubble has officially burst.
It seems like the credit crunch is all over the news at the moment. We spend all the money we ever have on vinyl and door tax so the property market has never been our number one topic of conversation, but even we have noticed that the number of cranes that used to litter the Manchester skyline has taken a beating.
Then, the other day we got an email from the guys at The Warehouse Project. The Store Street venue has been host to some amazing parties since The Warehouse Project first opened it up two years ago, not only during WHP itself but also at the Beneath the Streets parties during the rest of the year. However, property developers had got their grubby mitts on the site above the venue and were planning to build a swish hotel-cum-sky scraper there, meaning an effective end to all night parties below. But now the bank financing the development has pulled out, putting the development in limbo and giving the Warehouse Project another year in the Store Street venue.
This is great news for WHP fans, but it got us thinking. With food, fuel and petrol all taking chunks out of our wages, there's less money to go round when it comes to getting your groove on. So where should clubbers go if they want cheap drinks, reduced door tax or cheap entry? Which venues in Manchester are making your wallet happy, and where leaves your bank card begging for mercy? Give us the lowdown and we'll offer the best commenter a credit-crunching prize...

If you want a cheap night out stay away from Chorlton. Everywhere is expensive and it's full of stuck up tw*ts.
