Right now we're being hit with a financial double-whammy. A deadly combo of the right hook that is the post-Christmas debt mountain with the left uppercut of the Credit Crunch. Or the Economic Slowdown as we prefer to call it. Credit Crunch, with its catchy alliteration, just sounds too friendly and jokey. It's almost a child's breakfast cereal with a name like that.
So we're feeling miserable, and the chilly temperatures and pitch-black evenings aren't helping much. It's still going dark before most people are home from work and it feels as though it's been that way for 6 months already. We obviously need cheering up and partying our blues away is the best option. But that costs money, right?
Not necessarily. Or at least not that much. We can help, it's what we're here for. The gracious folk down at One Central Street are offering free entry for two on Fridays before midnight into their Northern Funk event throughout January and February when you present this voucher. Or you could give Friends & Family at Mint Lounge a try on Friday 16th, since they're having a residents special at a reduced entry of £4:00.
Over at One Central's sister venue, the Purple Pussycat, Disco Outcasts takes place every Saturday with Leo & Stefano playing cosmic funk and is free entry all night, every week. Or you could give the Toucan Rave 'January Sale' party at The Attic a try this Saturday 17th, with free entry before midnight and just £2:00 after. Chips With Everything are having a 'Credit Crunk' party over at The Deaf Institute on the same night with a door tax of £0:00.
Many of the city's cooler bars host promoted events without a door charge or a minimal charge later in the evening. We're thinking of the likes of Common, Soup Kitchen, Odder, Dry Bar and Saki Bar, but a trip around the Northern Quarter or Oxford Road circuits should satisfy your musical taste buds, your need to socialise and placate your bank account in this testing time.
