A triple-level bar with a roof terrace...
For a spell we were in Pure Space practically every weekend, however we'd not been for a while so we decided to return to see if its as good as we remember...
Pure Space does a tidy trade on most nights of the week and is particularly busy at weekends or when the weather's good, as it boasts one of the City's only rooftop terraces. The main space is an double oblong shape split into two by the bar and atrium. One of the reasons we used to frequent the place was the comfy booths, ideal for small groups of friends, the reasonably priced cocktails and friendly staff who will happily offer table service if they're not too busy.
The club space in the basement is the preserve of funk and soul at weekends, even if the former resident's Funkademia have moved onto pastures new. During the week its more student orientated cheap drinks and pop / commercial sounds. Up on the top floor, the open air terrace space is great on sunny days and has covered bits if you seek shade.
We've got to admit we were a bit underwhelmed when we last had cocktails, the specialist bar people were nowhere to be seen - it was Sunday afternoon - and the guy who made our drinks was helpful and friendly but ended up making us a £6 drink that was essentially rum and juice. One thing we can't stand is being charged top wack for drinks that are not prepared properly or don't use fresh ingredients.
That said, Pure Space is still a good place to hang out, if you're after beers, spirits and a reasonbly priced bite to eat. If it's cocktails you're after, you'd better hope the experienced bar staff are in or head elsewhere.
