Rum bar for Peter Street
In the beginning there was Revolution. Inventive Leisure spread from their Ashton-under-Lyne headquarters and that town's local bars (since long gone) into Oxford Road and the first of a now nationwide chain of vodka bars with mucho brands of the stuff, an ever-changing cocktails menu and a strong sense of style. Revolución de Cuba is the 'rum version' of Revolution vodka bars, and it's coming to Peter Street soon, occupying the unit formerly known as Squares, the bland behemoth that was once famous for a huge cube of TV screens at its centre, but little else.
There are currently 14 branches across the UK, with the first having opened in Sheffield on April 1st 2011. Now they're spread in such disparate locations as Blackpool, Cardiff and Norwich. Some are new units and some are within existing Revolution branches, with the last having been opened a month ago in Newcastle. So how about the rum itself? Well, we can look forward to around 50 rums from Latin America and the Caribbean. The bar's 'rum pinches' are a little treat that consists of rums infused with tropical fruits and spices, creating flavours such as cinnamon, pistachio and mango. The food is appropriately spicy as well, with Cuban, Mexican and Cajun among the menu.
While you might think that we have enough bars offering rums of the world already in Manchester (Hula, The Liar's Club, Keko Muko, Lola's), there's one crucial difference. This one will be quite sizable, and we expect it to be reasonably stylish rather than going down some cheesy Hawaiian route with the decor. We'll be spreading the word once the opening date approaches so we can see if we're right.

We went this place on Wednesday 31/10/12. The weather outside was inclement, but once inside this place, all that was forgotten. The place has an impressive open plan feel about it. The decor and lighting felt warm. The furniture was quirky, and as my partner said, it felt like you were abroad. We are both rum addicts, but didn't know where to begin. From 5pm to 7pm, everything on the rum menu was two for one! That will do! Suffice to say, we were very happy. The food was good also, and quite spicy. We had the £20 platter, more than enough there, and well cooked. The place was very busy I'm glad to say. We certainly will be returning to the place. It was a brilliant experience. Oh, finally, a shout to the blond mopped haired waiter, he was very good.

Walked past on Thursday night (13/09//12) and the boards outside are down, had a sneaky peak inside, it's not quite finished yet but the decor looks great. I honeymooned in Cuba this year so can't wait for this venue to open :-))

Hi Phil.
The style of music will definitely be inspired by Cuba & Latin America with 4-9 piece bands, latin dj's and salsa. The plan is to have a salsa social club on Wednesdays where everyone who loves to dance can do it in style. Its really exciting times and i hope we can meet up once open to talk music, rum, food and salsa.

Hi, Manchester desperately needs a top class place to dance salsa on friday and saturday nights. Any plans to actually play Salsa music to cater for the salsa community in Manchester at the weekends.
There is a thriving Salsa scene here, but to get any decent music we have to travel either to Salsa nights over in Leeds, or over to Wilmsow or Liverpool, Birmingham or even further afield.
