Manchester chapter kicks off the musical summit
The Red Bull Music Academy has provided a mobile workshop for budding musicians and producers since 1998 at various global cities.
The lucky visitors to each academy get to attend lectures, play with equipment and have the chance to ask burning questions to the likes of Carl Craig, Theo Parrish and Moodyman.
Now for the first time, the UK stage of this year's academy begins in Manchester before continuing in London, and we have a weekend of lectures, workshops, gigs and club events to look forward to.
These unique events start on January 29th at The Deaf Institute and continue on January 30th at Common and The Roadhouse. The Deaf Institute will play host to lectures that will see pioneers and musical legends of tomorrow rubbing shoulders to reveal secrets of mixing desk magic and shed light on the musical hybrids that have shaped this unique cultural metropolis. Before lectures from dance music pioneers Marshall Jefferson and A Guy Called Gerald, local music makers can experiment on diverse technical equipment and get cracking on the workstations that have been set up for the occasion. Things move into the night with a DJ set from Marshall and a live set from Gerald. Meanwhile downstairs the line up continues with, among others, Hot City and Mooken.
The proceedings continue on Saturday at Common with a very exclusive lecture from an as yet unknown special guest, followed by sets from Mount Kimbie, dÉbruit, Steve Mason and Sean Vinylment. Finally on Saturday night, Manchester’s Hoya Hoya present the Hoya Hoya Red Bull Music Academy Special, showcasing Hudson Mohawke, Illum Sphere and many others including dubstep star Kode9 and Werk Disc’s Actress.
