The Rumours Are True

Whitworth Street venue reopens

There's a rumour on the street of a new club opening within the shell that is the abandoned Area 51 and we can confirm it's true. Rumours opened on Friday December 3rd and like the cheesy 70's/80's name suggests, it's a full-on disco party venue.

A refit and new sound install was completed for the launch, after which it will open at the weekends for Boogie Fridays and Saturday Night Fever, playing pop and disco classics from the 70's to the 90's with Trafford Lovething (Car Wash, Funkademia) at the controls.

It has one room of 800 capacity action with free entry until 11pm and 2-4-1 cocktails until midnight. If you're tired of drainpipe jeans, this is a chance to crack out those flares you've kept locked away and just have some bright and shiny fun. When Area 51 closed down we predicted that someone would take the lease on the building and relaunch it as a new club sooner rather than later. It was always more likely to happen with this venue before it did with Club V or House 9. Those of you that attended the opening weekend, feel free to leave your comments.

We leave the final word to Trafford who was psyched about the opening - "You can expect an easy-going, friendly atmosphere and lots of getting on down to everything from Dee-Lite to Duffy. And, naturally, me - dancing and playing my favourite records. I'm not one of those DJs happy to hide behind the decks - I need to be out there with the revellers on the dancefloor!"

Dissapointed with our night at Rumours! Went out with the girls and stayed for several hours, the club didn't fill up and the music was not well mixed. Think we'll give it a miss next time and stay over at Sakura which is our favourite new spot... better DJ's and drink selection!

Club is nice but was not very busy on the Saturday that I went, music was ok but the mixing of the tunes could have been a bit smoother. Bar staff and door staff were excellent, has potential so I will return in the new year for another look.
