Our pick of the best parties for Boxing Day and the Christmas week 2007
While Boxing Day clubbing has become a highlight of the festive calendar, traditionally the week between Boxing Day and New Year's Eve can be a bit sparse on the party front. However, there are some great parties going on this year! Here's our pick of the bunch.
IN BED WITH SPACE WORLD TOUR CLOSING FIESTA @ SANKEYS, BOXING DAY
After a year of bed-hopping around the world, one of Ibiza’s favourite parties sets down in Manchester for their World Tour Closing Fiesta. Smokin’ Jo and Plastik Funk lead the way with their inimitable house sounds. We have five pairs of tickets to give away to the first five people to send IN BED WITH SPACE to firstname.lastname@example.org
8pm - 5am
PLAYGROUP @ REVOLUTION (DEANSGATE LOCKS), BOXING DAY
When you work in one of the best record shops in town, you're going to have some pretty mint tunes tucked away in your DJ bag . This is why we're up for Playgroup - with Eastern Bloc's Arnaldo and Mark Turner behind the decks, we know the music is going to be sound. Plus, we're suckers for feeding innocent people Revolution's chili vodka shots.
9pm - 2am
ELECTROSEXUAL PRESENTS BOXING DAY ROX @ ALTER EGO, BOXING DAY
They may be new boys on the scene but the Electrosexual crowd are going all out to make their first Boxing Day party massive. Bodyrox will be rocking the dance floor with Luciana providing live vocals and then make way for DJ Gregg Holden, who will be spinning electro-house until the early hours.
10pm - 4am
PLUSH @ RELISH, BOXING DAY
After leaving the troubled Ampersand venue and settling down in the classy surrounds of Relish in the Great Northern complex, Plush has been doing great things. Their Boxing Day party boasts Matt Beau, Adam Guy (Koochi) and Tim Owen.
10.30pm - 4am
FEDERATION @ THE RITZ, BOXING DAY
A couple of months ago Federation announced they were quitting the city for good after what they termed a ‘hate campaign’ was launched against their new residency at The Ritz. Fed lovers begged and pleaded for them to reconsider – and now they have! The first of two festive parties, Boxing Day sees Federation play host to Greg Myers, Jason Guy and Mickey Lloyd along with their inimitable entertainers.
10pm - 4am
FILTHY SESSIONS @ SANKEYS, 28th DECEMBER
Between the excesses of In Bed With Space and Boogie Nights on New Years Eve nestles a single great booking: Fedde Le Grand. After Put Your Hands Up For Detroit took over the clubbing world this summer, the Dutch DJ / Producer has become a household name and you can expect this to be a roadblock party.
10pm - 5am
ELECTRIC CHAIR: THE LAST SUPPER @ MUSIC BOX, 29th DECEMBER
The penultimate Electric Chair sold out weeks ago, but that wont stop us hoping for touts to buy tickets off on the night. The cream of Manchester's DJing elite and friends of Electric Chair are getting together to play five records each in a huge DJing battle, with the Unabombers presiding over it all. With appearances from Mr Scruff, Phil Asher, Aim, and scores of other DJ's.
10pm - 4am
HACIENDA XMAS PARTY @ SANKEYS, 29th DECEMBER
We'll forgive a little sentimentality at Christmas and so even though we still think it's time people got over the Hacienda, we'll let Sankeys off. The lineup boasts New York house master David Morales and electro-funk pioneer Greg Wilson alongside Hacienda old-timers Dave Haslam and Graeme Park, there's plenty to get excited about.
10pm - 5am
£10 nus / £10 b4 11 / £12 others / £6 after 2am
NORTHERN FUNK @ ONE CENTRAL STREET, 29th DECEMBER
Between 1997 and 2006, Northern Funk played alongside Funkademia pumping out old soul and funk. Since 2006 its legion of fans have been missing the night - so the Funkademia crew are bringing it back for one party over Christmas complete with Northern Funk stalwart DJ Myk Nolan on the decks.
10pm - 3am
