A little more action..a little less conversation..I'm leaving the building nowrob
first time in M + P's. i agree with all the positive comments, also have to add.....the pizzas are amazing!!!!!!dandy
bar staff are ignorant; too busy posing to provide service. music is consistently jazz-lite. expensive. bouncer is a moron who dislikes girlsPhil Adshead
Ridiculous prices for drinks..strange prententious barman, took a quid when I said `one for yourself` I felt like launching my knuckle at his fizz-ogg. used to be great, who evers took over club needs to get a grasp on reality its the N4 not Deansgate Locks...!Lord Snooty
Still one of THE best bar/venues in town and getting better. Don't understand all the whinging student types moaning about the prices, you get in for free midweek and see some of the best local jazz musicians play for now't, all till two in the morning! How do you think that is paid for? Having witnessed the way some of you behave when drunk, perhaps you should all take degrees in social skills and economics. Or drink somewhere else that caters more to your moronic values.Byron
I put one out of five by accident, I meant five out of five!Byron
This is an excellent bar, expensive but worth every penny. They play great jazz that really gets into your mind, it annoys me when people talk over the music. The only bad experience I had here was when they had hired a band with a sax lead who thought he was great, playing unlistenable avante gaurde crap. I prefer someone playing guitar like D`jango Reinhardt. There is a violin player who is there alot, he is excellent - plays a bit like stephane grapheley.Bill
M&P's is consistently great, with a varied roster of usually young jazz musicians and splendid cocktails and pizza. One point docked for the outrageously priced draught lager, but don't let that put you off as this place has the *vibes* indeedStevo
There seems to a be a consensus here that matt and phred's plays quality jazz music. I don't understand why that is the case if the music played there is as consistently bad as it was the one night I visited the place. There was no brass, no guitars, no saxophone, merely a singer, double bassist, and drummer doing a very bad job of covering the beetles classic "Eleanor Rigby" (jazz?). Perhaps I was just unlucky, but if the musics always that bad, jazz fans should give it a miss.Brenda
Fantastic, had a great time, still as good as the old early 90s version, PJ Bellls, in fact it is better.Steve
If you like jazz then go to Matt and Phreds... The music is incredible!tim
yes, although from the outside, matt and phreds could easily be mistaken for a porn store it certainly is a unique place for those who like finer drinks, candle-lit conversation and chilled music. from a 'skint student' point of view they certainly make you pay for this pleasure however it makes a nice change from the norm.andi
aside from the good music it is full of w*nkers, drinks too expensive and the people are a pretentious bunch. Dont know why they are so up themselves - they are all ugly sipping idiots up each others a*rses!John Staveley
Best place for Jazz in Manchester. Could update their web site.James Nesbitt
This is by far the coolest club in Manchester. No bullsh*t, just great jazz, good pizza, great wine. What more can you ask for?bam bam
this place really is good - yeah it costs a fiver after the band start, but i dont reckon theyre playing for free, and where else in manchester can you hear live jazz? absolutley class pizzas aswell, especially if its happy hour - nice.Matt
This place is cool. Great atmosphere, food and clientelle. The bands are great and when I was down the other night, Wynton Marsalis popped in with his band and started to Jam with everyone! If you are into good music, even if you haven't really listened to much Jazz this is the place to go. Every weeknight the music is great so have fun!Oonagh
Amazing music! Great atmosphere, beers is a bit pricey though, but it doesn't stop you enjoying yourselfChris
Quality pizza! Free before 11 so get there early. Great atmosphere and the music is amazing. They have some of the best jazz musicians in the country playing every night!steve

Top Jazz Club, beer reasonably priced, great atmosphere and top bands. 20-something clientele there to enjoy the jazz.Adam Smith
Extortianate beer prices, pretentious clientelle, good'ish music but 5 quid in as soon as the band starts. Nahhh, sack that lets go somewhere else
